RE-OPENING OF THE HARLESTON, WORTWELL & DISTRICT ANGLING CLUB

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement and statements from the Angling Trust, Environment Agency and Suffolk Police Constabulary, HWAC Committee have decided to open all pits as of 0800 hours Monday 1st June 2020.

However the committee must emphasise that certain stipulations MUST be maintained:

Social distancing of 2 meters must be maintained at all times.

No congregation of anglers.

Only family/household members in the same bivvy.

Only bivvies in appropriate swims all paths to be kept clear.

All anglers to be in possession of hand sanitiser.

Toilets will be open but at anglers risk, use own hand sanitiser.

No pre-booking swims by other anglers or placing buckets in swim.

Overnight fishing will be allowed with the following restrictions Bottle & No1 Pits a limit of 72 hours, after which you must leave that lake and not return within 72 hours, but you can move to another lake. Ocean Pit has a 7 day limit after which you must leave the lake and not return within 72 hours

(This is a temporary measure in order to allow the maximum number of anglers to fish and will be reviewed depending on demand and at which time the normal rules will then be reintroduced) If you turn up and find all pegs are taken, leave that pit and try another.

Do not walk around.

ANYONE FOUND BREAKING OR ABUSING THE ABOVE STIPULATIONS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY AND A THREE MONTH BAN WILL BE IMPOSED.

Further to the above as a result of a small minority not securing the gate and other issues the access to The Ocean Pit at the Eastern gate has reluctantly been withdrawn by the land owner as well as fishing of Hall's Pit - This is for 12 months while negotiation take place to resolve all issues for future seasons

ANY MEMBER FOUND IN BREACH OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RECEIVE A LIFE TIME BAN

A substantial bridge has been constructed at the west end of the Ocean to facilitate barrows over the small stream for access to far end of Ocean Pit, there is no access to Hall's Pit or Pegs 103 to125

Senior Matches will commence on Sunday 14th June. No Junior matches will take place until further restrictions have been lifted

The Harleston, Wortwell and District Angling Club owns and manages 6 well stocked fishing lakes in the Waveney Valley on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, together with some stretches of the River Waveney itself. The lakes - also known as Weybread Pits - offer some of the best fishing around for both beginners and highly experienced anglers who are looking for a challenge. Three lakes - the Club Pit, Kingfisher Pit and the Bottle Pit—are owned by the Club and can only be used by those holding an annual membership ticket. The other three lakes - Middle Pit, No.1 Pit & Ocean Pit - are managed by the Club on behalf of the Harold Dean Charitable Trust. These 3 pits can be fished on Day or Weekly tickets and by Club members who choose to buy the extra facility. Only members can fish the river. To find out more about the lakes, see our Lakes page.
